Thematic Context (American Diversity)
After the civil rights movement and the black’s push for cultural equality, there was a huge wave of everyone demanding that there be equality and diversity. Diversity was one of the biggest and important movements of the 1960s because all types of people started demanding for rights as well. Since the 1970s to the present, there has been an ongoing fight in American society to achieve this political and cultural diversity. The government has been doing their effort to help establish official rights for particular groups since then, and will keep going way after today or tomorrow.

Thesis
Richard Nixon had a few mistakes during his presidency: the Watergate scandal, his impeachment, and his resignation. But these few blunders should not overshadow the work he has put into the foreign affairs and domestic reforms he worked on during his time in the oval office. Therefore, he deserves the grade of B+.

Goals
Nixon wanted to reunite the “war torn” country. It could be said that he completed this goal because he helped to end the Cold War and started to begin cooperation with more mighty nations.

Relation with Congress
Nixon’s relationship with Congress was average. Nixon was a conservative Republican whereas Congress had a Democratic majority. However, the main tension between the two branches came from disagreements over presidential powers. But for the most part, there was no major arguments between the two and their relationship kept going until the end.

Positive Event
Nixon oversaw the passing of many green laws and the establishment of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These were great, positive events because if no actions were taken to help the environment by then, then the pollution today would have been irreversible. It was great that he brought the topic of environmental conservation when he did.

Negative Event
The infamous event that Nixon is known for is the Watergate scandal in which it was revealed that Nixon and his administration were committing many misdeeds and lying to the public about it. The scandal proved that sometimes the president cannot be trusted and that Nixon shouldn’t remain as president of the United States.

Influence
Nixon’s most influential act was his foreign affairs with the Soviet Union and China. His peaceful interactions with the two communist countries allowed for progression in the American government and the American people so they could become more acclimated to the two essential superpowers.

Conclusion
The mistakes Nixon committed should not overshadow the true success of his other accomplishments. He made much headway domestically and internationally when he was in office, and accounting for the scandals, Nixon deserves the grade of B+.
